Releasing an agent
If you would like to release an agent, please request the release by completing the form below. Spark will provide our Spark release and any other releases needed from partner upline agencies we work with. The standard turn-around is 5 days. We will return the release directly to you to provide to your agent.

Understanding the impact of releasing an agent
Releasing an agent has implications on your renewal commissions and data retention. We’ve included details below, but please understand there are nuances across carriers and Spark.
- Override commissions: if you are releasing a street agent, you will continue to receive administrative override renewals on any applications produced while the agent was under your agency. If the agent writes an application even after you have provided the release but has not yet moved to a new upline agency, you will receive both new and renewal overrides. In short, the overrides do not move with the agent to the new upline. Recall that carriers can change these override renewals at will.
- Street commissions: if you release an LOA agent who has assigned commissions to your agency, you generally will not need the agent to sign a document to ensure that the commissions are still paid to your agency. There are a few exceptions; notably, if you do not have a corporate contract with UnitedHealthcare and instead agents are simply assigning commissions to your individual contract, you must have the agent sign a business transfer form to ensure that the book of business moves to your agency upon their release. Notify support@sparkadvisors.com and we can assist with the correct forms.
- Data visibility: carriers have different data visibility policies. For some carriers, you will no longer be able to see the agent’s book of business except through commission statements. For other carriers, you will be able to see the full book of business. Policies may differ by the agent type (street or LOA). Spark’s policy is as follows:
- For street / independent agents: you will continue to have visibility into the departing agent’s book of business on your Production report and through your commission statements. You will not have access to contacts created on Spark’s platform. To gain access, you must have the agent opt-in to data sharing by completing the link here: https://sparkadvisors.formstack.com/forms/data_opt_in
- For LOA agents: you will continue to have visibility into the departing agent’s book of business on your Production report and through your commission statements. You can get access to the agent’s contacts on the Spark platform. To gain access, you must have the agent opt-in to data sharing by completing the link here: https://sparkadvisors.formstack.com/forms/data_opt_in
Loss of life
If your agent or partner passes away, you have a few options for receiving their data.
- If the agent previously opted-in to data sharing by completing this link, Spark is able to grant you access.
- If the agent did not opt-in to data sharing, their estate may do so on their behalf.
- You will continue to have visibility into the departing agent’s book of business on your Production report and through your commission statements.
